Skincare: How to succeed with your daily skincare routine
Cream, toner, mask - feeling overwhelmed by too many product choices? And what is the most effective order for skincare? How can the skin be protected from daily stress factors such as pollutants in the air, UV radiation, or sweat? Follow our APO24 step-by-step guide to the optimal skincare routine.

Why is facial care necessary?
Die The skin is the largest organ in the human body. It provides protection, regulates body temperature and moisture balance, and serves as a sensory organ. A well-thought-out facial care routine helps the organ to regenerate and provides the necessary protection. Skin health therefore comes from consistency, a good routine, and preventive care for the skin barrier.
Step by Step to the right skin care routine
How should an optimal facial care routine be structured? A good basis is a type of cleansing and moisturizing that is tailored to the respective skin type. If you want to include more steps in your routine, depending on the needs of your own skin, you can follow our step-by-step guide:
Step 1 - Cleansing
During the day, dirt accumulates on the face, for example in the form of makeup or excess sebum. Therefore, the pores must be deeply and effectively cleansed.
Frequency: twice daily
Recommendation for skin type:
- Normal & dry skin: cream and lotion texture
- Combination, oily, and blemished skin: gel and light lotions
Step 2 - Extra care Exfoliation
Exfoliants help remove dead skin cells, stimulate blood circulation, and help with clogged pores.
Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week (as needed)
Step 3 - Toner/Tonic
Toners regulate the natural pH value and remove any remaining dirt. They have a refreshing effect and prevent blemishes.
Frequency: twice daily
Recommendation for skin type:
- Dry skin: toner with nourishing oils or aloe vera, rose water as a moisture booster
- Combination, oily, and blemished skin: Balancing & antibacterial tonic, such as tea tree oil
Step 4 - Extra care Face mask
It can sometimes help to apply a pampering face mask after using the toner.
Frequency: Once a week
Step 5 - Serum
A serum prepares the skin for natural regeneration. Serums have a highly concentrated, thin texture and penetrate deeper layers of the skin more quickly - therefore, always apply before your cream.
Frequency: twice daily (gently pat in)
Recommendation for skin type:
- Dry skin: hyaluronic acid or niacinamide
- Combination, oily, and blemished skin: niacinamide, zinc, salicylic acid (BHA), retinol
Step 6 - Extra care Eye cream
As the skin around the eyes is very sensitive and has little fatty tissue, dryness lines quickly become apparent - eye cream helps to combat this.
Step 7 - Day cream
Here, you should look for moisturizing and regenerating ingredients to hydrate the skin. If you want to save on eye cream, you should also care for the eye area in this step.
Frequency: twice daily
Recommendation for skin type:
- Dry skin: hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, urea, jojoba oil
- Normal skin: chamomile, white tea, argan oil
- Combination, oily, and blemished skin: salicylic acid, fruit acid, clay
Step 8 - Sun protection
Applying sunscreen not only helps protect against UV radiation, but also prevents pigmentation spots and wrinkles. Read more about sunscreen in our article:
Suncream: What you should look out for. Sunscreen should be applied daily and reapplied throughout the day as needed.
As a general rule, always pay attention to the interaction of the active ingredients. This is because there are products or ingredients that are unsuitable for certain skin types, which can irritate the skin and worsen its appearance. Natural cosmetics are particularly mild.
